Ever wonder what sparks creativity and turns an idea into reality?

Living in the imaginal has always been my happy place. Traipsing through the magical realms residing behind our eyelids, and sometimes, shaping those imaginings and bringing them into our realm.

I wanted to bring a little of this mystery into these illustrations and combine them with one of my favorite things to do:

These mystery bookmarks hold little watercolor worlds and characters, all while holding your place in that wonderfully addictive book on your bedroom side table.

Each of these whimsical illustrations have a story that inspired their creation and character behind their furry faces.

HAL

Hal is the gentleman who is softie at heart, but you have to get through his furry layers before you experience his sweetness. He is a bear of few words, but loves giving gifts to his loved ones (though you will only know it is from him when you mention how awesome the gift was and you see his cheeks turn a adorable pink before he hastily turns away making an excuse that he needs to do the dishes or some such nonsense).

BENGIE CAKE

Bengie is a shy and genuine little bear cub. He brings his friend Hatty Cake wherever he goes. Though he is shy, he is very protective of his friends and does everything in his power to protect and support them, be that some extra cuddles or saving from a dangerous demon, he will be there 110%.

ANGEL CAKE

Angel Cake is the moral compass of the friend group. She keeps some of the others from acting on their intrusive thoughts (or just their normal slightly evil thoughts). She can seem pretty uptight at first, but is an avid explorer of life. She has strong boundaries, but as long as they are respected, she is the life of the party and will always surprise you with something new and unexpected.

WHISPEN

Whispen is a very mischievous kitty. He loves getting into trouble and being ever so helpful in the art studio, marking all the paintings with his paint covered paw prints and knocking over all the water containers. He is lucky he is cute, otherwise he would be relegated to the outdoors. He brings joy to those around him with his ridiculous antics and brings a smile to your face, even if he has caused utter chaos.

SNUFFLES

Snuffles is a Plat and is obsessed with all his gems and minerals (like many of his kind), He is a first time father, and is protecting his lava egg with all his might. He is daydreaming about bringing his soon to be Platling (a baby Plat) to all his favorite gem spots across the realms and seeing their eyes alight with the same passion his does when discovering precious jewels and minerals.

CALM CHAOS

I am always awe-inspired by how calm the constant chaos of nature can feel. It is like being simultaneously shaken to your core and ensconced in utter peace. This painting was painted by that charged energy on a stunning summer day.

ENCROACHING GREEN

After biking along the coast for an hour I finally discovered a bewitching and stunning ocean view. I was intrigued by the clear blue sea slowly being taken over by a sea of green. I imagined if this painting could grow, it would be completely taken over by the forest in no time at all.

MAGNOLIA

Walking through my neighborhood on a perfect spring day, I glanced up to my left, and was struck by the vibrant pink and white petals of this lovely Magnolia in contrast to the pale blue sky. Something about the colors together calmed my spirit and urged me to capture the tranquil moment.

PEACEFUL SOLITUDE

While hiking through the forest I traipsed through lush green brush and burst through to this stunning view of the ocean. I became so enticed by the view, I had to capture the beauty in front of me. The vibrant blue in contrast with the deep greens and blacks made me feel like the painting was going to come alive and drift off the page.

PLAYFUL PASSION FLOWER

Alien purple beauty crowded my backyard fence. Long speckled whiskers danced between the delicate and glossy petals and protruding stigma. I knew I had to capture this fascinating flower and its playful dance in the peaceful summer breeze.
