From Idea to Illustration: The Inspiration Behind My Art

Behind the Fantasy Novel: Illustration Collection
📖This fantasy novel is my first time ever writing a novel. I have done my very best to outline the story and key plot points, develop characters and make Pinterest boards for the worlds present in the novel. But as a first time novel writer, there is a lot of fabulous surprises and developments that happen during the writing process. ✨️Characters come to life without you planning it, worlds are needing to be created to help the story along and already developed characters decide that they have a different thought process or path than originally decided.
🪄I also love incorporating the little bits of magic in my life and experiences in the novel as much as I can. A key example is the animated stuffed animals that care for the main character, they are based on stuffed animals in my family with all their quirks and oddities. My character design was inspired by them, and it made the writing just flow when it came to their personalities and how they interact as a group. I have introduced them in my blog title, "Celebrate the season with my new art collections!"⬇️
and you can also meet them in the descriptions in the prints and merch with their paintings. ⬇️
Angel Cake, Bengie Cake, and Hal are just a few of the motley crew that cares for the main character. They are led by the leader, Padycake, who is a sassy Bear. 🧸Aside from Padycake, there are even more to their crew who I will introduce in the future. In these illustrations, I wanted to capture their vibrancy and essence and hopefully do them justice. They are just the beginning to the illustrations that will fill the pages of my novel and eventually my hand painted graphic novel. 🎨
Landscape and Flower 2024 Collection🌼🏞
Nature has always inspired me and I love capturing its essence through paper and paint. I wasn't always a nature painter though, I decided to get over my trepidation of painting landscapes during my time teaching in South Korea. You can go through the first landscape painting journey with my in my blog: Embrace of Plein Air ⬇️
Once I embraced nature painting, I discovered that it is my favorite way to capture my travels. I now have travel journals that are full of watercolor landscapes, trees and flowers that capture my favorite aspects of my travels. I am excited to share some of these paintings in my most recent collection!
I am very pleased to share that aside from high quality prints and merch with these paintings, I also have a few originals looking for their new home:
Calm Chaos
I am always awe-inspired by how calm the constant chaos of nature can feel. It is like being simultaneously shaken to your core and ensconced in utter peace. This painting was painted by that charged energy on a stunning summer day.

Encroaching Green
After biking along the coast for an hour I finally discovered a bewitching and stunning ocean view. I was intrigued by the clear blue sea slowly being taken over by a sea of green. I imagined if this painting could grow, it would be completely taken over by the forest in no time at all.

Peaceful Solitude
While hiking through the forest I traipsed through lush green brush and burst through to this stunning view of the ocean. I became so enticed by the view, I had to capture the beauty in front of me. The vibrant blue in contrast with the deep greens and blacks made me feel like the painting was going to come alive and drift off the page.
